The Robert Cray Band
Robert Cray, the five-time GRAMMY award-winning singer/songwriter and world-renowned American blues guitarist will release Cookin’ In Mobile (Vanguard), a live CD + DVD on July 27, 2010.
Recorded earlier this year, on February 21, 2010, at the historic Saenger Theatre in Mobile, AL., Cookin’ In Mobile, is The Robert Cray Band’s first ever live DVD release. The 13 song CD/DVD features some of Cray’s classic hits “Right Next Door” and “Smoking Gun” alongside new favorites “I Can’t Fail” and “That’s What Keeps Me Rockin’” and includes additional bonus footage (behind the scenes and performance).
Since their 1980 album debut Who’s Been Talkin, Cray’s unique playing style and distinct sound has become the bridge between traditional and contemporary - a signature blend of rhythm and blues, pop, rock, soul and traditional blues helping introduce old and new fans to a more contemporary blues sound. Never content with interpreting his music the same way twice, Cray's daring innovations have placed him at the top of the business. “Robert Cray is not only making great music,” says Guitar Player Magazine, “he's making history. With a few exceptions... it used to be that there was the blues and there were the masses and never the twain shall meet. But Cray, who obviously is respected in blues circles, is a press darling and crossover smash. "
His most recent 2009 album entitled This Time garnered the legendary artist another Grammy nomination and much critical acclaim from music critics worldwide. He has his own line of Fender Signature guitars and has performed alongside blues titans Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and B.B. King- touring extensively with both Collins and Clapton while also having worked with legends Tina Turner, Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Raitt, friend and fellow guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn and Willie Dixon, to name a few.
As a writer, his songs have been covered by many including, King, Clapton, and even Tony Bennett (his 2003 Grammy winning CD Playing With My Friends featured the title song that Cray co-wrote). Cray was featured in Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues series and he has appeared in Tina Turner's TV special Break Every Rule, the Chuck Berry tribute Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll, and the Rolling Stones' pay-per-view video Voodoo Lounge. Cray has released eighteen award winning multi platinum albums, received 5 Grammys, 14 Grammy nominations and performed thousands of sold-out shows worldwide.
